Tailored Walk-in Wardrobe Solutions by DAY and KNIGHT

Made To Measure
Space Saving Wardrobes

Most wardrobe fitting companies use generic size cupboards with additional blanking strips; giving the illusion of a bespoke design, but they’re actually wasting usable space.

At DAY & KNIGHT, all our walk-in wardrobes are fully bespoke and made to measure using state-of-the-art CNC machinery to maximise all available space. As a result, our customers gain an average of 25% more storage space.

Our walk in wardrobes are made from the strongest grade boards and finished with luxury durable veneers and laminates. These are much stronger than cheap chipboard units, which tend to break and chip easily. If you’re comparing prices, make sure it’s “like-for-like” product.

The cost of a walk-in wardrobe in the UK can range from around £1,500 for a basic modular option to over £15,000 for a fully bespoke, luxury design. The final price depends on several factors, including size, materials, level of customisation, and additional features. Simpler designs with affordable finishes like MDF or laminate are more budget-friendly, while premium materials such as solid wood, glass panels, or other high-end finishes will push costs significantly higher.

Customisation is a key factor that can influence the price. DIY ready-to-assemble modular systems can be cheaper, but if you’re looking for tailored solutions like specific storage configurations, integrated lighting, or soft-close mechanisms, expect to pay more.

Bespoke designs, like those we create at DAY & KNIGHT, tend to be more expensive than the DIY counter-parts, but will allow you to fully optimise your space, especially in awkward or unconventional layouts. If obtaining multiple quotes, we recommend ensuring they’re all offering a like-for-like product and service to ensure an accurate comparison of value for money.

The amount of space needed for a walk-in wardrobe largely depends on your specific requirements, but there are general guidelines to ensure it is both practical and comfortable. At minimum, a walk-in wardrobe should be 2.1 metres in length and 1.5 metres in width, giving enough space for a single row of hanging storage along one wall with clearance for movement.

For more functionality, a larger space of around 3 metres by 2 metres is recommended. This size allows for double-sided storage and a central walkway of at least 90 centimetres – the ideal clearance for ease of movement. If you plan to include a seating area, a larger space, such as 3 metres by 3 metres, can provide extra comfort.

For those with accessibility or special needs, it’s vital to consider wheelchair access and manoeuvrability. The recommended minimum clearance in this case increases to 1.2 metres for the central walkway, ensuring sufficient space for turning. Shelving, rails, and drawers should be installed at accessible heights – typically no more than 1.2 to 1.4 metres from the floor for hanging rods and storage surfaces, with deeper shelves kept lower to avoid strain.

Lastly, the doorway to the walk-in wardrobe should ideally have a minimum width of 82 centimetres for easy access, or wider (900mm+) if accommodating a wheelchair user.

We offer a sophisticated range of storage and display options for our walk-in wardrobes. Movable shelves can offer flexible arrangements, allowing you to adapt your storage for bulkier items, or reconfigure layouts as your needs evolve.

Specialist shoe racks are available to elegantly display and organise your footwear collection. Soft-close drawers provide a sleek and quiet storage option for folded clothing. Internal cupboards offer concealed spaces for larger, less frequently used items, keeping your walk-in wardrobe clutter-free. Our hanging systems are designed to accommodate everything from formal coats to delicate dresses.

Additionally, specialist accessory drawers for jewellery, ties, belts and other smaller items in neatly compartmentalised formats are also available.

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to add a dressing area to your walk-in wardrobe, and it’s a popular feature for those looking to create a more functional and luxurious space. A dressing area can elevate your wardrobe by offering a designated spot to prepare for the day, try on outfits, or focus on final details before heading out.

Common additions to dressing areas include mirrors, either full-length or integrated into the wardrobe design, as well as vanity units for storing accessories or cosmetics. You can also include seating, making it comfortable for you to sit while selecting jewellery, doing makeup, or organising smaller wardrobe items. Clever lighting choices (like soft, focused lights around mirrors) can enhance the experience further.

With thoughtful planning and expert craftsmanship, incorporating a dressing area into your walk-in wardrobe can be a seamless process. At DAY & KNIGHT, we specialise in designing tailored spaces to suit your needs and style preferences, so you can enjoy a personalised dressing experience within your walk-in wardrobe.

Choosing the ideal layout for your walk-in wardrobe depends primarily on the dimensions and shape of your space, as well as your storage needs and personal preferences. Each design (L-shaped, U-shaped, and linear) offers unique benefits tailored to different room configurations.

An L-shaped layout works best for rectangular or square spaces where two adjacent walls can be utilised. This design is particularly effective for maximising corner space, providing both hanging and shelving options in an efficient and accessible manner. By allowing for movement along two sides, an L-shaped wardrobe ensures a spacious and organised feel, making it perfect for medium-sized rooms.

If you have a larger, more expansive area, a U-shaped layout may be the ideal choice. This configuration employs three walls for storage, offering generous room for compartments, hanging rails, and drawers. It’s ideal for those requiring substantial storage while maintaining a central open space for dressing.

Meanwhile, linear designs are perfect for narrow or smaller rooms where a single wall can be optimised. Sleek and practical, this layout ensures efficient use of limited space without compromising functionality. Whatever the shape or size of your room, selecting the right layout is key to ensuring both style and practicality and we’re here to help.

Absolutely, it is entirely possible to install a mini fridge for chilled refreshments, or a coffee station in a walk-in wardrobe. It’s a concept growing increasingly popular among those with a taste for premium living; who value convenience and luxury in their homes. We’re here to help you realise your vision.

With careful planning and execution, your walk-in wardrobe can serve as a multifunctional space that complements your lifestyle seamlessly. These additions can elevate the functionality of your space while also creating an atmosphere of convenience and refined living. However, when planning for such integrations, it’s important to consider factors like electrical supply, ventilation, and the overall layout to ensure the appliances don’t disrupt the harmony of your wardrobe.

Yes, incorporating a hidden door, or secret passage within a walk-in wardrobe is entirely feasible and can add a wonderful touch of intrigue to your home. At DAY & KNIGHT, we’ve seen a growing trend among clients who have been inspired by various concealed entrances featured in films and literature. Whether designed to provide access to a discrete storage area, or to connect to another room, hidden doors can be made to blend seamlessly into your space.

The process involves careful planning and precision to ensure the concealed entrance aligns perfectly with the rest of the cabinetry. We work closely with our clients to integrate features such as flush-mounted hardware and continuous panel designs. Every detail is tailored to achieve a flawless, hidden look, making it an exciting choice for those seeking to personalise their space. It’s an excellent way to make your wardrobe more than just a place for clothing.

Indeed, your walk-in wardrobe can be designed to include a built-in safe for your jewellery and other valuable accessories. At DAY & KNIGHT, we recognise the importance of combining both functionality and security within luxury wardrobe spaces. It’s entirely possible to incorporate discrete secure storage solutions that complement the overall design, ensuring your valuables are well-protected without compromising on style.

Many of our high-end clients request tailored features such as hidden safes, or lockable compartments when customising their wardrobe spaces. These additions can be seamlessly integrated into the design, enabling easy access while maintaining privacy. Whether you prefer a concealed safe tucked behind a drawer panel or a dedicated lockable section, we work closely with you to choose the size, placement, and security specifications that best suit your needs.

Our team takes great pride in designing wardrobes that are not only visually stunning, but are also practical and secure. By integrating specialised storage for your jewellery, we ensure you have peace of mind alongside a beautifully organised wardrobe space.
