A Bright and Spacious Home Workspace by DAY & KNIGHT
When an interior designer approached DAY & KNIGHT to create a bespoke desk and matching storage cupboards for their client’s home office in Reading, Berkshire, our team was thrilled to take on the task. As part of a larger house renovation project, the goal was to design furniture that would complement the traditional style of the home while keeping the office looking bright and spacious.
Maximising Natural Light In The Home Office
This home office was blessed with an abundance of natural light, thanks to the large double glazed sliding doors that overlooked the client’s stunning garden and the additional windows in the vaulted ceiling. The interior designer was keen to capitalise on these features, and the DAY & KNIGHT team set out to create some custom furniture that would enhance the room’s airy feel.
Sleek and Functional Bespoke Desk
DAY & KNIGHT designed a bespoke desk in a crisp Frost White Super Matt finish, featuring black edge-pull handles and recessed desk ports for a clean and modern look. This minimalist design allowed the natural light to take centre stage, while providing the client with a functional and stylish workspace.
Matching Storage Cupboards with a Traditional Twist
To complement the desk, we created fitted storage cupboards in the same Frost White Super Matt finish. The cupboard doors were manufactured in the Alpine Shaker style, a superior 22mm thick door that adds a touch of traditional charm to the contemporary space. The doors were fitted with black knurled T-Bar knobs, providing a cohesive look with the desk’s black edge-pull handles.
The bespoke storage cupboards were designed to include space for the client’s TV, and the client later added their own linen effect wallpaper to this area, creating a textured backdrop that added depth and interest to the room.
Expanding the Brief: Bespoke Living Room Furniture
The interior designer extended the brief to include the design and installation of a bespoke cupboard unit and matching bay window storage seat. These were to be for the client’s living room. Continuing the theme of bright and spacious interiors, the furniture was manufactured in a Linen Pressed, Shaker door style with flat style drawer fronts, all finished in Mussel Matt – a neutral, light colour with natural cream undertones.
To add a touch of functionality and style, a full-length mirror was fitted to the exposed end of the cupboard unit. The client further customised the new living room unit with the same linen effect wallpaper used in the home office, tying the two spaces together.
