New Home Office Storage: A Marriage of Tradition and Modernity in Reading, Berkshire
The town of Reading in Berkshire, stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of historical charm and contemporary life. Adjoining the tranquil River Thames, this bustling centre captures a unique work-life balance, making it an idyllic backdrop for the latest of DAY & KNIGHT’s bespoke fitted furniture for home offices.
Client Vision: A Blend of Purposeful Function and Complimentary Style
Within this traditional country home in Reading, a new storage solution was required for a dedicated home office. The client wanted a purposeful storage unit that looked authentic to the room and that would compliment the rest of his traditional country-styled home.
The room benefits from natural daylight through several Velux skylights and a wonderful feeling of spaciousness due to its magnificent vaulted ceilings. With walls painted in a deep luxury heritage burgundy from Farrow & Ball, exposed white wooden beams and white architrave detailing, it demanded a design that would fill the allocated space and enhance this room’s charming character.

Fitted Furniture by DAY & KNIGHT: Where Craftsmanship Meets Design
DAY & KNIGHT’s solution was a traditional design finished in a Super-Matt Frost White colour that incorporated a generous mix of shelving and cupboard storage, spanning elegantly across a single wall within the home office. The colour and style choice ensured that the unit added a refreshing lightness to the room while aligning with the client’s vision of authenticity and traditional charm.
Albert and Callum, part of the highly skilled furniture installation team at DAY & KNIGHT, took the helm in bringing this vision to life. The final piece, a stunning fitted shelving unit with built-in cupboards, stood in perfect harmony with the traditional wooden beams and the room’s vibrant burgundy backdrop.
What took this installation a notch above others was the ingenious utilisation of the area above the doorway – an often overlooked space – transforming it into an additional shelving area. This strategic move not only maximised storage, but also added a unique architectural element to the room.

Charlie and Danielle made the whole experience of organising some fitted shelves for our home office very pleasant. Simple process, a great price, and their fitting team did a great job. Highly recommended, we will certainly use them again.

Each choice, from the colour to the positioning above the doorway, was made with the room’s unique features and the client’s needs in mind.
The newly installed shelving and cupboard unit has eloquently transformed this home office in Reading, making it a true reflection of the client’s vision: a space that’s practical, beautiful, and authentically traditional. It’s a reminder that in the right hands, bespoke furniture can do more than fill a room – it can enrich a home’s narrative.
