Making The Most Of Your Small Spaces
In the heart of Hampshire, a tricky staircase landing hallway gets transformed into a mini marvel of modern design and function – a bespoke micro home office. It’s a perfect example of blending necessity and innovation, crafted by the skilled hands here at DAY & KNIGHT.
Maximising Space with Ingenious Design
The key to transforming this size-limited area into a productive workspace was meticulous planning and creative design. The DAY & KNIGHT design team started by addressing the primary need for functionality mixed with the aesthetic of spaciousness. The desk placement was strategically designed to face out over the open-plan stairwell. This not only ensures that the user can enjoy the view but also helps in maintaining a psychological sense of space.
Adjacent to the desk, custom shelving and cupboards were installed to the side and behind the workstation. This thoughtful arrangement minimises the physical footprint of the furniture, yet maximises storage efficiency. By opting for wall-mounted units over base units, the design successfully preserves floor space, keeping the landing uncluttered and open.

Great Style For Modest Budgets
Just because a space is designed to be functional, doesn’t mean it has to compromise on style. The selected material for the desk, shelving, and cupboards was a rich dark oak wood-effect laminate. This material choice provided a touch of elegance and warmth to the home office, all while staying within a modest budget. The wood-effect finish not only complements the interior decor of the house, but also adds a professional veneer to the office setup and is very easy to keep clean.
The Art of Custom Fitted Furniture
The entire installation process was another testament to DAY & KNIGHT’s commitment to quality and precision. Callum, a member of our highly skilled fitted furniture installation team, took charge of making the client’s vision a reality. Every piece of this micro home office suite was crafted to fit the unique and challenging space of the staircase landing, ensuring that no space was wasted and the existing radiator could remain in place.

This project stands out as a prime example of how even the most confined spaces can be transformed into highly functional and stylish areas. It reflects DAY & KNIGHT’s expertise in providing custom fitted furniture solutions, tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients.
“We came to DAY & KNIGHT with a tricky unused space which we wanted make better use of. The team have smashed the brief, we have now have a functional home office with a desk and plenty of storage. It looks better than I imagined.”
