A Tall-Order Brief: Style and Storage in Equal Measure
Tasked with transforming a characterful room in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, DAY & KNIGHT were asked to create a stylish dressing area that would truly maximise storage by making full use of the tall ceilings.
The space presented a particular challenge: striking ceiling angles created by the architecture. Rather than compromise the design, the team treated these features as opportunities, tailoring every millimetre of cabinetry to bring order, elegance and impressive capacity to an unusual room.
Contemporary Shaker Style Wardrobes in Beautiful Porcelain White Finish
The client’s vision centred on a classic contemporary look that feels calm, refined and timeless. Modern shaker-style built-in wardrobe units delivered the ideal balance of clean lines and subtle detail. Four-panel Eclipse doors in a soft Porcelain finish provide a sophisticated foundation, beautifully offset by silver knurled radio knob handles that introduce texture and highlight the craftsmanship.
To enhance the practical function of the space, several wardrobe doors were equipped with full-height mirrors. These serve both dressing and light-enhancing duties, reflecting daylight and ensuring the room feels open despite the extensive storage. Completing the scheme, a seamlessly integrated dressing table provides a dedicated area for grooming and accessories, tying the entire layout together.
Designing for Height: Making the Most of Tall Ceilings
Maximising vertical volume was central to the brief. DAY & KNIGHT developed a bespoke arrangement that rises to the ceiling line, even where the roof geometry shifts and slopes. Carefully templated end panels and scribed infills allow the cabinetry to follow the angles precisely, eliminating wasted pockets and creating a continuous, built-in appearance.
High-level compartments make intelligent use of those extra inches, while hanging sections are tailored for both long garments and everyday pieces. The result is a dressing room that feels tailored to the architecture; because it is.
Luxurious Wardrobe Internals in Porcelain White and Grey Nebraska Oak
Open a door and the sense of quality deepens. The wardrobe internals are finished in a beautiful, complementary grey Nebraska oak, selected for its refined grain and understated luxury. This tone harmonises with the Porcelain exterior, lending warmth without overpowering the calm palette.
Recognising the variety in the client’s clothing and accessories, DAY & KNIGHT incorporated multiple internal drawers and organiser trays, alongside adjustable shelving and dedicated shoe space. From jewellery and belts to knitwear and tailoring, the layout keeps everything easy to find and simple to maintain.
Quiet Confidence: Premium Components as Standard
As with every DAY & KNIGHT bespoke unit, soft-close hinges and drawer runners are fitted as standard. These quiet, reliable mechanisms add an understated sense of quality to daily use, protecting doors and drawers while keeping the space tranquil. It is a small detail that makes a big difference, especially in a dressing room designed for unhurried routines.
Architecture Plays Its Part: Natural Daylight Enhances the Design
This home’s architecture particularly benefits the dressing room by introducing generous natural daylight through Velux-style roof windows. Soft, even light washes across the Porcelain finish, catching the four-panel detailing of the Eclipse doors and working in tandem with the mirrored fronts to create a bright, uplifting atmosphere. Morning or evening, visibility is excellent for outfit selection, and the space feels open despite the comprehensive storage that lines the walls.
Impeccable Fit and Finish by Callum and Simon
Installation of this fitted dressing room was carried out by DAY & KNIGHT’s skilled team, with Callum leading and Simon (new to the team) bringing fresh energy to the project. Their work demanded exacting attention to detail: aligning the four-panel door pattern, maintaining consistent reveals and scribing cleanly to the sloped and angled ceilings. The final fit is exemplary, with doors operating smoothly and cabinetry sitting perfectly true to the room’s geometry. It’s the kind of workmanship that looks straightforward only because it has been executed so well.
“We were given thoughtful advice and the result is exactly what we wanted. So lovely to deal with a family business and one where all the staff seem to be engaged with getting the best result. Friendly and professional from start to completion. We are already deciding what to do for the next job, so we would highly recommend.”
